Common areas of concern that SEC Coaches often see are:

Academic Probation

1. Know The School’s Policies

Academic probation policies vary by college. Be sure to check your school’s website or speak with an academic advisor to understand GPA requirements, credit minimums, and the steps required to get back in good standing. Knowing the rules puts you in a better position to take proactive action.

2. Talk to The Academic Advisor Immediately

If you think you might be in trouble academically, don’t wait for an official notice—schedule a meeting with your academic advisor as soon as possible. Advisors can clarify your academic standing, explain your options, and help you create a recovery plan.

3. Use Campus Support Services

Colleges offer a variety of resources to help struggling students. Take advantage of:

Tutoring centers for academic support

Study workshops to improve learning strategies

Mental health counseling if personal challenges are affecting performance.

4. Create a Realistic Recovery Plan

Sometimes it is helpful if the student takes a step back and assesses their course load, responsibilities, and commitments. If they are feeling overwhelmed: Consider dropping a class, cutting back on extracurricular activities and set realistic short term goals to get ahead.

A College Success Plan coach can provide structured support to help you stay on track. 5. Stay on Top of All Course Requirements

Some courses, such as Intro to Psychology, require observation or participation hours that count toward the final grade. These slots fill up fast—complete them early to avoid last-minute stress.

6. Be Proactive and Accountable

Attend every class—consistent attendance improves comprehension and shows professors you’re serious about improving.

Engage with instructors and classmates—they can become valuable academic allies. ● Keep track of deadlines—use a planner or digital calendar to stay organized.

Sometimes, simple habits lead to the biggest improvements. Showing up, staying engaged, and asking for help when needed can make all the difference.
